The commander of the Massachusetts State Police says a veteran trooper working an overnight construction detail was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver.
Superintendent Marian McGovern says Sgt. Doug Weddleton had pulled over a car on Interstate 95 north in Mansfield after the vehicle tried to enter a closed ramp at about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Weddleton was out of his cruiser when a second vehicle struck him.
The 52-year-old Weddleton was a state trooper for 28 years. He leaves behind a wife and four sons.

A 52-year-old Spotsylvania County sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty yesterday afternoon while on marine patrol at Lake Anna.
Deputy Dean Ridings was pronounced dead about 2 p.m., at Mary Washington Hospital from injuries suffered in a boating accident about 80 minutes earlier.
Another Spotsylvania deputy on patrol with Ridings, William Schroeder Jr., was treated and released yesterday from Mary Washington with what are being called minor injuries.
Police released few details about the accident but said it did not involve a crash with another boat.
Schroeder was operating the 19-foot Invader outboard boat at the time of the accident, said state police Sgt. Les Tyler.

A San Antonio police officer has been placed on indefinite suspension after allegations of misconduct that include having sex in the back of his patrol car.
According to the San Antonio Express News, 35-year-old officer Christopher Martinez is accused of running personal errands, visiting friends and ignoring some calls while on duty.
The most serious of the allegations was that he had sex with a woman in the back of his patrol car while he was still on duty, the newspaper reported.
Martinez was suspended without pay on Feb. 12 and is appealing that suspension, the newspaper reported.
Martinez is the second officer to be suspended for allegations of sexual misconduct on the job this year.

BROCKTON — A former Brockton police officer fired last year has been indicted on charges of stealing money from people he pulled over.
Prosecutors say Michael J. Darrah, who was fired in September for behavior unbecoming an officer after an internal investigation, was indicted Thursday on four counts of extortion by a police officer, five counts of larceny from a person, three counts of larceny under $250 and two counts of larceny over $250.
Chief William Conlon tells The Enterprise of Brockton that the alleged victims spoke little or no English and feared their complaints would not be taken seriously.
He called the allegations “shameful.”
Darrah’s home number is unlisted and it was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Fla. Officer Found Guilty in Coma-Causing Crash

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. --
A former Altamonte Springs police officer was found guilty on traffic violations related to a crash that left a teenager in a coma. A judge found former officer Mark Maupin guilty Friday of failure to use due care and not wearing a seatbelt.
Maupin was driving 104 mph, without lights or sirens operating, when he crashed his patrol cruiser into the car 20-year-old Erskine Bell was riding in last year.
The car Erskine Bell was riding in was left mangled in the middle of the intersection at Rose Avenue and Maitland Boulevard
After the collision, Maupin's squad car came to rest in a wooded area on the side of the road.
Still comatose, paralyzed and unable to speak, Erskin Bell Junior spent Tuesday morning at the hospital, getting the tracheostomy tube removed that he's had since the horrific crash on SR-414 late last November.
The Bell family says they have never gotten an apology from Maupin. They really don't know what he looks like, aside from the photograph in the news stories.

Five Hollywood police officers accused of involvement in a cover-up that was caught on camera have received letters of intent to be terminated.
Hollywood Police Chief Chad Wagner plans to fire all five employees involved in the February 2009 incident. Local 10 learned that the officers received letters of intent from the chief on Wednesday. They now have five days to appeal.
In the incident, a marked patrol car driven by Officer Joel Francisco rear-ended another vehicle at Sheridan Street and Interstate 95. Several officers arrived at the scene. Video from a patrol car's dashboard cam shows police officers apparently talking about fudging the crash report to make it look like the other driver caused the crash.
Those who received the letters of intent to be terminated are Francisco, Officer Dewey Pressley, Community Service
Officer Karim Thomas, police Sgt. Andrew Diaz and crime scene technician Andre Tomossi.
Alexandra Torrens-Vilas, the woman seen in the video whose Toyota was struck by a Hollywood officer, told Local 10's Janine Stanwood she feels a sense of closure.
"I'm just happy that there's a conclusion to this whole thing," she said.
"I'm not surprised. Actually, I'd be more surprised if they were not terminated," said Lawrence Meltzer, Torrens-Vilas' attorney.
The Broward Police Benevolent Association put out a news release late Wednesday, including the following statement.
"With today's firings, it is evident that the termination of three veteran police officers and two civilian employees is nothing more than a public lynching by a few elected city officials for their own political agenda," said Jeff Marano, senior vice president of the Broward Police Benevolent Association.
The PBA said it does not feel like the city conducted an objective, unbiased investigation.
The state attorney's office just received the case and will now review the facts. There could be criminal charges later.

The commander of the Massachusetts State Police says a veteran trooper working an overnight construction detail was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver.
Superintendent Marian McGovern says Sgt. Doug Weddleton had pulled over a car on Interstate 95 north in Mansfield after the vehicle tried to enter a closed ramp at about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Weddleton was out of his cruiser when a second vehicle struck him.
The 52-year-old Weddleton was a state trooper for 28 years. He leaves behind a wife and four sons.

A 52-year-old Spotsylvania County sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty yesterday afternoon while on marine patrol at Lake Anna.
Deputy Dean Ridings was pronounced dead about 2 p.m., at Mary Washington Hospital from injuries suffered in a boating accident about 80 minutes earlier.
Another Spotsylvania deputy on patrol with Ridings, William Schroeder Jr., was treated and released yesterday from Mary Washington with what are being called minor injuries.
Police released few details about the accident but said it did not involve a crash with another boat.
Schroeder was operating the 19-foot Invader outboard boat at the time of the accident, said state police Sgt. Les Tyler.

Texas Officer Accused of Having Sex in Patrol Car

A San Antonio police officer has been placed on indefinite suspension after allegations of misconduct that include having sex in the back of his patrol car.
According to the San Antonio Express News, 35-year-old officer Christopher Martinez is accused of running personal errands, visiting friends and ignoring some calls while on duty.
The most serious of the allegations was that he had sex with a woman in the back of his patrol car while he was still on duty, the newspaper reported.
Martinez was suspended without pay on Feb. 12 and is appealing that suspension, the newspaper reported.
Martinez is the second officer to be suspended for allegations of sexual misconduct on the job this year.

I would like to share with you my reasons to be angry, but wait, first let me tell you why others are mad.
For example, my ex-wife boyfriend Jasson John miller is upset because he was stuck with this piece of shit(my ex). He want everyone else to have the same shit or worse.
His mother in law Maureen Kurdi is upset because she was stuck with the same piece of shit, she also want the entire state of California and Nevada to be as miserable.
The ex-cop from LVMPD Brian Glitch is angry because he wanted to be on top and not on bottom.
All the time or dogie style. The man is dominant. Therfore anything including everything must be scaned by him and authorized. He was suppose to be the next Alexander the great of the new melenuim. He didn't know how to write a police report, among of the many other execuses which drove him to turn(his badge in and resign). Why would anyone else become an author, editor and publisher of anything, especially with all the sudden Mba from 1989 when we are in the year 2010.
Promise is promise, as the french say it, "promis c'est promis"when i told you earlier in the first paragraph about my reasons to be angry would be shared with you.

In an article published by one of the law enforcement websites, very poor analysis were presented for the concerns about the reasons why cops are dying.
The author of the article focused on the older cops who are all the sudden dying in an increasing numbers. He used the coin flip/flop chances and percentile statistics.
Using 50 percent chance head or tail, etc..etc..that 50 percent chance you flip the coin you might have head. He, the author of the article made reasoning with this flip/flop coin head or tail 50 percent chance to be as acceptable as for the chance that the increasing numbers of older cops are all the sudden dying.
For all of us to accept his analysis, to move on and just deal with the deads as business as usual.
No research were made for the reason after otopsies were taking to collect more data for possible correction or and help preventing future death. What the heck is going wrong with some people.
For example in my research of one fatal death of a middle age cop, pills were the driven factor to his sudden collapse. Legal and normal upper pills over the counter. This issue must be shared with other to prevent future risk to everyone who take upper pills to stay alert or and with higher enery when on duty.

Fired Officer Accused of Stealing from Motorists He Pulled Over

BROCKTON — A former Brockton police officer fired last year has been indicted on charges of stealing money from people he pulled over.
Prosecutors say Michael J. Darrah, who was fired in September for behavior unbecoming an officer after an internal investigation, was indicted Thursday on four counts of extortion by a police officer, five counts of larceny from a person, three counts of larceny under $250 and two counts of larceny over $250.
Chief William Conlon tells The Enterprise of Brockton that the alleged victims spoke little or no English and feared their complaints would not be taken seriously.
He called the allegations “shameful.”
Darrah’s home number is unlisted and it was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

LAS VEGAS — The young son of a Las Vegas police officer was in critical condition this morning after accidentally shooting himself with a handgun in Moapa Valley, police said.
Police said the child was put to bed in his parents' bedroom late Saturday evening, when he discovered the gun in a night stand. The gun discharged, striking the child in the arm and abdomen, police said.
Emergency officials were called to the scene, in the 600 block of Lillian Condie Road, at 10:53 p.m. The child was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, where he remained today.
According to police reports, the incident happened at 640 Lillian Condie Road. County records indicate the home is owned by Jared Bledsoe, a Las Vegas police officer.
Las Vegas police's Abuse and Neglect Detail is investigating the incident, police said.
Their investigation will be submitted to the Clark County district attorney's office, which will decide whether to recommend criminal charges.
Police said the Internal Affairs Division will review the case to determine whether policies were violated.

Fla. Officer Found Guilty in Coma-Causing Crash

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. --
A former Altamonte Springs police officer was found guilty on traffic violations related to a crash that left a teenager in a coma. A judge found former officer Mark Maupin guilty Friday of failure to use due care and not wearing a seatbelt.
Maupin was driving 104 mph, without lights or sirens operating, when he crashed his patrol cruiser into the car 20-year-old Erskine Bell was riding in last year.
The car Erskine Bell was riding in was left mangled in the middle of the intersection at Rose Avenue and Maitland Boulevard
After the collision, Maupin's squad car came to rest in a wooded area on the side of the road.
Still comatose, paralyzed and unable to speak, Erskin Bell Junior spent Tuesday morning at the hospital, getting the tracheostomy tube removed that he's had since the horrific crash on SR-414 late last November.
The Bell family says they have never gotten an apology from Maupin. They really don't know what he looks like, aside from the photograph in the news stories.
Fla. Cops in Alleged Cruiser Crash Cover-Up to Be Fired

Five Hollywood police officers accused of involvement in a cover-up that was caught on camera have received letters of intent to be terminated.
Hollywood Police Chief Chad Wagner plans to fire all five employees involved in the February 2009 incident. Local 10 learned that the officers received letters of intent from the chief on Wednesday. They now have five days to appeal.
In the incident, a marked patrol car driven by Officer Joel Francisco rear-ended another vehicle at Sheridan Street and Interstate 95. Several officers arrived at the scene. Video from a patrol car's dashboard cam shows police officers apparently talking about fudging the crash report to make it look like the other driver caused the crash.

"I'm just happy that there's a conclusion to this whole thing," she said.
"I'm not surprised. Actually, I'd be more surprised if they were not terminated," said Lawrence Meltzer, Torrens-Vilas' attorney.
The Broward Police Benevolent Association put out a news release late Wednesday, including the following statement.
"With today's firings, it is evident that the termination of three veteran police officers and two civilian employees is nothing more than a public lynching by a few elected city officials for their own political agenda," said Jeff Marano, senior vice president of the Broward Police Benevolent Association.
The PBA said it does not feel like the city conducted an objective, unbiased investigation.
The state attorney's office just received the case and will now review the facts. There could be criminal charges later.
